A quote, in tandem with an abortion of justice
Mr al-Mulla said the fact the trial had taken place was "a sign that the UAE is showing that everyone in this country can be put in front of law and judged".
The BBC's Christian Fraser in the region says the verdict will do little to satisfy those who have long criticised the Emirates abject human rights record.
They will argue it proves once again that the extended royal family and those Emiratis in positions of power are often above the rule of law, says our correspondent.
The UAE is a federation of seven wealthy emirates with substantial oil reserves and a large expatriate population. Each emirate is run by a ruling family and citizens are granted few political rights.
Mr. Al-Mulla. Lying mercenaries such as yourself will rot in hell.

A sad day, indeed.
And why will he rot in hell exactly?
A defense lawyer's duty is to defend his client, he did this, and got the verdict he wanted.
Thats how a court works, the DA (or al Amanah Al 3ama as it's called here) tries to put the defendant behind bars or get him fined, and the defense lawyer tries for the exact opposite.
Law, justice, and truth are not in play in a court. Not here or anywhere else.
Who was on trial aside, the defense lawyer did his job. Nothing more, and nothing less. I actually applaud him for his out of the box claims. Sounds like things I would have come up with. lol.
But Emarati, I know you have said in the past that as per our constitution the royal families are not above the law, that is true. But in practice, they, and 2 or 3 levels below them are. Thats the truth. And it wont really change anytime soon simply because the UAE as a whole WORKS.
And those "civilized" people who live here bitching about this are more than welcome to leave. I sure as hell wouldnt want to live in a so called uncivil and unjust land.
Hola Tragedy, I don't see you post at the UAE Community Blog. What happened? I personally enjoyed reading your analized, I have a problem against the whole world type of comments. Did they revoke your bus pass or what? Are you really an Emirati because at times you sound like a faggady Barrio, unless your a 50-50?
Oh, and don't be too hasty to ask civilized people to leave because if they do, you'd end up being in the spotlight and eventually a canned tin of dog food ;) Just some suggestions from a non-Latino ;)
a more realistic way of giving the story it's size in this link:
http://on.wsj.com/4VxLS8
Poor Sheikh Issa, he was so defenseless that he was drugged by his friends and "coerced him into abusing Shapoor".
Poor, poor prince. The court has instead sentenced the Nabulsi brothers for five years in prison, in absentia.
Of course, a cook, was sentenced to one year in prison and deportation because he tied up the merchant. Two workers on the sheikh’s farm were sentenced to three years for “partaking” in the abuse.
The Sheikh, of course, he was not culpable.
This is not good defense. It is a bought court. Its [a] tragedy that the difference is blurred in some minds.
A bought courts IS the very best defense if you think about it. Cant go wrong.
ABIT-- a 'bought' court is most unfortunate for a budding nation like the UAE. If the law can be 'bought' you or most ordinary folk shall be 'sold' cheap.
Actually, we've also bought courts in the past. Its a good system.
Also note that in this specific case, the court wasnt bought technically. We dont have a division of the judicial and executive branches in the UAE. So I doubt even one fils was exchanged. The judge's boss is the defendants brother. And both are the presidents brothers...
Lets put it this way, had all the players not played in this way, they would have "magically" vanished for a long long time.
That lack of division plus the family oriented business of the UAE means we probably never will not have this system.
Now, lets step away from the matter just a bit... The UAE has done in 40 years what no other country has. And in terms of it's citizens, it is 2nd to none... maybe Qatar... So the question that should be asked is, to MOST (and here most means 51% or more) Emaratis care that the courts are like this?
Nope. We dont. Not bothered, because on a whole, and on average, our country works pretty damn well.
THIS is how things are done here, Dont become high and mighty and start forcing YOUR (probably western) ideology on the region. I prefer our current system, on average and as a whole.
Now if there are people who are disgusted in such an important value of theirs as Justice, the may leave, because for every one that leaves 2 wish they could be here.
I see alot of people outraged (supposedly) at this but I see no one pledging to leave back to the just and civil place they came from.
Do you know why? Because just as money bought this court, money has also bought their souls.
So you see, our system IS wanted when it puts money into YOUR pocket but not when it doesnt.
I have noticed the increase in emaratis repeating the word and idea of if you don't like the place then leave and I don't think it is logical nor rational to adobt such strategy or philosophy, this take it or leave it policy always puts you or me in the critisicim and the negative spotlight... the same happenes with anyone anywhere thinking or acting in the same direction...
Personally although I am emarati I disagree with this approach instead my approach is all about analysis.
This approach leads no where good in my opinion... as a nation we have to accept critisizim and be able to reply with an acceptable mentality not to just say this is how I am and you guys have to take it or leave it.
Jassim,
The way one writes shows where they come from!
This is one of the reasons I have always admired Emirati and his Blog 'An Emirati's Thoughts'.
Tragedy is a 50-50 (Latino/Arab), too superficially macho. He or she doesn't even know where their loyalties lie. Likes of such get burnt off before reaching maturity.
Hola Tragedy, I finally went through the archives and figured out why they banned you at the UAE Community Blog. Not only do you dispel hogwash but it seems you can't write a comment without telling people to leave. It must be pretty frustrating to see them not leave, no? Besides, why should they? They've been sent here to drive all those 50-50 wackos & wannabes' like you up the wall - Sheesh, don't freak out!
Some hotshit banker you are! God save all those clients under your wing that is if you really are as you keep shit-shooting your mouth time & again.
Say as you wish, I get paid real well to do what I do. Hot shit banker? Hardly, but I am obviously worth what Im paid.
No, I am not 1/2 latino, though truthfully, I had many latino friends in college and they were much better than the so called "real" americans.
As for my loyalties, I only have one nationality, and my loyalties are the UAE's motto. Allah, Alwatan, Wa Raees Al Dawla. Simple, Sweet. and in that order.
Jassim, I accept criticism from my fellow UAE CITIZENS about matters of policy and how OUR government functions.
All these foreigners have their own governments and are more than capable (obviously) of criticizing them. Funny, they weigh the pros and cons of living in their hell hole, decide that the UAE is a BETTER place (for whatever reason) then come over here and somehow decide that they have a RIGHT to criticize MY country? Fuck them. Seriously.
I will not accept that from my slaves. Im sorry if you dont agree, but any non UAE national has a VISA in their passport in the name of their master. That is the truth.
Having 80% foreigners in the country isnt in and of it's self a bad thing, BUT having foreigners that have been here for 35 years, have had their kids born here, and continue to stay here is. Even members of our govt have stated that this is not a good idea, with some stating that one of the reasons why the UAE spends so much on weapons these days is because of this.
I think allowing visas for NO MORE THAN 15 years is the way to go.
As for the if you dont like it leave thing, its true. There are people willing to do anything short of selling their own mother to be here because no matter the drawbacks, it is still better than what they are running away from.
For every bitching foreigner who leaves, you can find 3 more that dont bitch to replace them.
MY govt is MY problem. They have their own to bitch about. The simple fact that THEY ARE HERE instead of TEHRE is proof enough that HERE IS BETTER THAN THERE for the time being.
Oh, and Non, I was banned because I called out the 19 year old foreigner who runs that blog, as a child he should only speak when spoken to. A kid who bitches about Etisalat when he isnt even capable of having his own lines or accounts, one who bitched about Salik when he didnt even drive.
If its so bad, why are you here? Simple question, with a simple answer. MONEY. I OWN YOU, and EVERYONE LIKE YOU.
And this just proves it. I can get away with anything short of murder, and you will be deported for giving the finger.
No matter what you say, think, or do, those are the facts.
It's fine though, I was asked by a fellow blogger to see their post on this subject and around 90% of the responses are from foreigners. Its not a community blog. Its the we get paid a shit load of tax free salaries but also want to bitch about it blog.
Fine. I have my own. Funny that I dont see your comments on mine. lol. At least I can say that you are smart enough to know that your crap wont be approved there.
Some hotshit banker you are! God save all those clients under your wing that is if you really are as you keep shit-shooting your mouth time & again.
lol. Amazing, a nobody talking shit to me. How about this, lets meet! I will be back from a business trip on the 22nd God willing, so lets meet on the Sunday after, what do you say? I'll even buy you a hot chocolate! I'm assuming thats what you drink.
I'll check this thread when I'm back for your answer.
They've been sent here to drive all those 50-50 wackos & wannabes' like you up the wall - Sheesh, don't freak out!
They've been "sent" here? No sir, they were drawn here by the cheap living, the tax free salaries, and the idea of being "superior" to us.
Thing is, in the 70, sure, that was true. Today, not so much.
Sure, some residents here are here for what I call real reasons. Many Pakistanis I know are here simply because their homeland isnt a place to be right now. I can understand that, bombs, crazy Americans... Same for Iraqis...
Some are looking for a safe (relatively) place to make a living and would love to go back home if not for the fact that it would be crazy to do so right now.
But many are money whores. Nothing more or less. Here to vacuum up as much as they can from our govt, and to hide it all from theirs.
Nice people.
Hola Barrio Bro,
As for my loyalties, I only have one nationality, and my loyalties are the UAE's motto. Allah, Alwatan, Wa Raees Al Dawla. Simple, Sweet. and in that order.
Now that sounds like a Slave to me.
I think allowing visas for NO MORE THAN 15 years is the way to go.
Must be pretty frustrating when you don't have a say in this one, now, isn't it?
For every bitching foreigner who leaves, you can find 3 more that dont bitch to replace them.
So continues the cycle until you end up like Zimbabwe.
I will not accept that from my slaves...They've been "sent" here? No sir
Fact: Never say 'slaves' to someone and then address someone as 'sir' on the same page. It proves your confused & lost.
I'll even buy you a hot chocolate! I'm assuming thats what you drink.
I got a better suggestion for you. Deep freeze that hot chocolate, then pour it into a hollow teflon-coated dildo. It'll come handy when the time comes to stick it where the sun don't shine.
And you keep proving with your freaked-out, insecure, neurotic and emotional responses that your just a wannabe. A real banker will use every tactic, hook-line-and-sinker, to attract money even if he has to (literally) prostitute themself. Go back to school, hotshit, maybe you'll learn something starting with being nice to your fellow human
beings including the 19 year old Foreigner Kid that banned you from the UAE Community Blog. What an accolade for a know-it-all Hotshit Banker? Bravo!
Take it as a blessing when I say I'm done with you.
Adios Barrio Bro.
A Blessing in Tragedy:
with all due respect but comments fights and harsh expressions will lead you no where, yes you make me laugh and your sarcastic way of making fun of people on opposition to your ideas is too strong no denial but does it really sort out the subject? in my opinion definatly not.
Regardless of all I think that this whole subject is controversial but the totelarian way sometimes some emaraties express definding there ideas and opinions could not last long becaues actions always speak louder than voice.
Don't take me worng or attack me please.
For others I respect your views and ideas and when I spoke about emaraties in the first comment I did not mean the blog owner or contributor named EMIRATI in the blog I meant some emarati nationals in general.
Just two thoughts.
1. One is not reacting to this rape, brutalisation and torture as a citizen, expat, or a non-resident, non citizen. This is not about democracy v/s monarchy or anything.
It is a human response. As human being we are appalled that this happened and that there are attempts to justify it.
Emiratis are human too?
2. The UAE could have simply refused to try the man saying their royal family is above all this. That could be looked s an example of its policy, whether or not the world agreed.
Instead it CHOSE to have a trial AFTER the case was reported in the Western media.
So the UAE seems to care about world opinion. Regardless of what some of its citizens think.
But then it went and made a mockery of the justice system which all societies have had since ancient times. In any society, including Arab, not just Western, there are lores of Kings, judges and khalifs who have chosen to be just rather than play favourites. It's not a western concept.
Now ABIT, who would you say is a bigger whore (or slave)?
Someone who accepts a TEMPORARY bargain to come and earn (and learn) for a while in a jurisdiction they may find somewhat distasteful (perhaps because their own ancestors fought to free themselves from tyrants and colonisers) and who moves on having added another panel to the tableau of their life experiences?
Or someone who lives in the place and has nowhere else to go but still accepts the LIFELONG subjugation of their free will to a self-serving ruling clique in return for the scraps from the welfare table?
A few other points:
Whether you're an immigrant or a local is just a matter of the timing of your arrival. The difference is particularly small in this part of the world.
Perhaps the failure to be in awe of what the UAE has achieved in 40 years is because many of us come from countries that achieved developed status and wealth through hard work and resourcefulness rather than the results of a geological lottery. I hardly think the UAE's achievements are impressive over the last 40 years compared to, say, Singapore, Taiwan or South Korea for instance. Or even Botswana (yes, look it up).
Just sayin'..
For the record, I like the UAE and (most of) it's people, wherever they're from; doesn't mean I'm going to bow and scrape to anybody though...
an abortion of justice?
do you mean an abolition of justice? or an aberration of justice?
'Blessing in Tragedy'
are you hiring in finance/IT by any chance? I'd like to repalce some of those ungratefuls!

@ ABIT: "I will not accept that from my slaves. Im sorry if you dont agree, but any non UAE national has a VISA in their passport in the name of their master. That is the truth."
Im a local. Its ironic that you speak of enslaving others while you yourself are a slave of God. Read the order of allegiance again.
How dare you associate me with your views.
The country since its inception has had locals as a minority. Embracing trade and other nationalities, and even nationalizing foreigners has made the country what it is. I work with these slaves, and I pray next to them. Gladly. For I am one too.
@ rootless:
someone who lives in the place and has nowhere else to go but still accepts the LIFELONG subjugation of their free will to a self-serving ruling clique in return for the scraps from the welfare table?
------------------
First off, no country is perfect, but saying that, lets get to the root of your argument:
A classic system argument. You think we are oppressed huh?
I for one doing fine, I have food to eat, and live ok. The locals are a small population but we are doing well with our scraps. My freewill is in good shape too. I CAN voice my opinion. I might have rulers, but my culture is fine with them, and so am I.
You think the system is wrong?
Youre barking up the wrong tree, thinking freedom is free.
Read the news, China, a socialist nation is the fastest growing economy in the face of one of the "free-worlds" greatest reccessions.
---------------
Finally,
Your argument is not new:
In the end they will lay their freedom at our feet and say to us, 'Make us your slaves, but feed us.'" --Dostoyevsky's 'Grand Inquisitor' ...1887...
only the weak and spineless will put food before freedom. the history of wars around the world has shown it enough number of times.
If democracy is so good then why do America and England whant to give it to the middle-east?! Do you think the rest of us are as stupid as the Iraqis?! Lah dee dah, lah de de dah...
whats utterly laughable was the official explanation that would even have a three year-old rolling their eyes....."my orange juice was mixed with drugs"....
phew, thank goodness! for a second there we all thought you were actually, seriously, angry and mad....yup....including those other twenty plus seperate incidents also caught on tape....
what a relief that you were only drugged...and...those men in uniforms? not the police, no! those were private security guards.
my minge itches what should i do?!
Blogger A Blessing in Tragedy said...
" Say as you wish, I get paid real well to do what I do. Hot shit banker? Hardly, but I am obviously worth what Im paid.
No, I am not 1/2 latino,.." and the rest of it...
even though i dont agree with everything on here as unlike most opinions here, mine are not black and white but in assorted shades of gray; i have to say that this was one helluva an awesome post to read. well articulated and just plain amusing.
i just cant stop from criticizing one little thing: the whole "if you dont like it you may leave" sign off always gets the worst of scrutiny and criticism. i think its time we come up with a more creative line. it comes off sounding quite immature and insecure too to be honest, something we dont have to be and Arent.
